Three things decide a payout
Pledge, times accuracy, times timing, times difficulty. Scores split the pool.
Accuracy
20 s out still scores 0.37. Past 60 s scores nothing.
Timing
1.50x at the gun, 1.00x when tickets close at 80% of the run. Waiting buys information and costs score.
Difficulty
Lonely calls pay up to 6.00x. Only other players' money counts. Your own pledge never crowds you.

Why it holds
Payouts are shares of the pool, so the platform never carries the loss.Difficulty counts money on a call, not wallets.Nobody within the cut-off: the pool rolls, untaxed.

A was 3 s further off than B, but bought at 10% of the way to the cutoff instead of 95%. The timing bonus outweighs the accuracy gap.
No house seed at risk
The pool is the payout.
No edge to fall off
A near miss is paid like a near miss.
One round at a time
One pool, worth chasing.
